Giving Successful Presentations

An in-home meeting is a great way to get off to a fast and powerful start. It is designed as a way for you to present to all your key warm market prospects at one time. If you are new to the business, ask your upline to conduct the presentation.

Hotel meetings allow you to leverage the success of others in the business. Prospects who attend hotel meetings are often exposed to high levels of success and have the opportunity to see first hand the caliber of people involved. They also require much less preparation time on your part.

One-on-one presentations are probably the most powerful, but they are also the most time consuming. The primary advantage of a one-on-one is that you are able to address your prospect's specific questions and particular areas of interest directly. A one-on-one can also be much more informal and relaxing - almost social. When you are new in the business or have an unusually high quality prospect, it is often advisable to have someone in your upline help you with your presentation.

It is common for a single prospect to attend more than one meeting before becoming a Distributor. For example, you may have an initial one-on-one with a prospect, invite them to a hotel meeting to see other aspects of the business, and finally, sign them up at a follow-up meeting with your upline.

Preparation Regardless of the type of meeting, successful presentations start with preparation. Confirm with all your prospects 1 or 2 days prior to the meeting. You can even confirm again on the day of the meeting. When confirming, be quick - don't answer questions at this time. We have found also that it can be very effective to confirm appointments in writing, for example, a fax or e-mail confirmation letter that includes a map to the hotel or home where the meeting will be held.

The meeting atmosphere should be relaxed, so that prospects are excited but not apprehensive. You want people to feel like they have known you for years. Set the tone for the meeting yourself by being relaxed and enthusiastic. If the meeting is in a home, the room should have good lighting and be left in its normal setting. Position the board for minimum traffic interference and disconnect phones in the immediate area. A quick straightening up of the meeting room, kitchen and bathroom is sufficient. Serve simple refreshments - coffee, tea, water, but no alcohol. Serve refreshments before or after the meeting - NEVER during the meeting. Extra chairs should be put out only as needed. You don't want your guests to think you are expecting more people than have showed up. Here is a true story. In 1986, as new distributors, John and Giselle had invited over thirty people to a business presentation; all invitees accepted and all confirmed. Extra chairs were brought in, the room was set up for thirty people, coffee and refreshments were prepared for thirty people, and three people showed up. Had the room been left in its normal setting, having those same three people show up would have been seen as a success, with thirty empty chairs however, it looked more like a catastrophe.

If you are meeting a prospect for a one-on-one, be sure to meet them in a quiet place where there will be no distractions. If you schedule a one-on-one for lunch, remember that it is difficult to give a presentation with food in your mouth, so plan on eating very little, but enough to be polite and make your prospect feel comfortable. Be sure to have products and literature available.

As a leader it will be necessary for you to be able to give presentations to your prospects and also for your downline, so practice. In all businesses including ours there will always be inconveniences. Will you be willing to experience them? There will be challenges. Will you fight to overcome them? There will be sacrifices that must be made. Will you be willing to make them? The "on-the-job" nature of learning how to make good presentations falls within the arena of these kinds of challenges. Use the material provided by Deborah.nu, pay attention and take notes at every opportunity in which you have access to experienced leaders giving presentations and soon you will develop your presentation skills to a high level of competence.

True character is the ability to stay focused on your goals long after the mood in which they were made has passed.
