NEWS GROUPS AND CHAT ROOMS ARE WHERE PEOPLE COME TO TALK ABOUT SPECIFIC SUBJECTS. THEY ARE EXCELLENT FOR MEETING PEOPLE.
FIVE TIPS TO INCREASE NEWSGROUP SUCCESS
TIP #1 Use a Signature File --- Universally Accepted! The majority of newsgroups
do not allow advertising but you can place a signature "ad" following your
message. Keep it short, under 5 lines as a rule and don't post something
irrelevant just to advertise with a signature.
TIP #2 Multiple Postings are Okay --- Hold the "Velvetta". You can put the same
message in more then one group *if* it belongs in "all" of them. Limit cross
posts to 6 groups in one message. Cross posting saves time and for serious
posters there are software programs you can purchase to automate the process.
*WARNING* With newsgroups more isn't always better.
Achieving a Breidbart Index of 20 or higher is considered SPAM.
(The Breidbart Index is the number of newsgroups each individual message was
posted for messages of essentially the same content.) Better results will come
from a few well-known groups rather than blasting to large numbers of newsgroups
that are inappropriate, empty or never read.
TIP #3 Create Original Headlines -- Rise Above the Crowd. Every hour there are
thousands of newsgroup messages posted. An eye-catching headline is essential to
attracting attention. It is the subject line that determines if your message is
read or skipped. Use a few symbols (#*/=+) to set your headline apart and CAPS
to highlight keywords. Below are examples of making dull headlines more tempting
for a reader to click. !!!Make M-O-N-E-Y On Computer!!! $BIG$ BUCK$ Possible!

Keep trying new and different headlines until you find one that pulls. Try
asking a question, offering a "free report", or come up with something original.
When a headline works, stick with it!
TIP #4 Keep It Short and Simple!
Keep your newsgroup messages short as possible. 12 lines or less. (Some
newsreaders will not load more lines). Give an appealing description of your
product or services stressing it's main points. Remember to use several of your
"keywords" as Usenet messages can also be searched at AltaVista, InfoSeek, and
other search engines. Provide the URL, autoresponder, or email address to
reply for information. The purpose of your newsgroup ads should be to gain the
reader's interest and have them respond by clicking. Use autoresponders and web
page links to provide instant details and information. Your prospect can receive
it in seconds and sign up or place an order. Toll free 800#'s can also be
effective but you must pay for the cost of the call or service.
TIP #5 Don't SPAM -- Post Messages Where They Belong. Post ads to newsgroups that
contain advertising. Otherwise you will only generate complaints. If you are not
sure if advertising is acceptable read a sample of messages before posting. Also
check "TERMS OF SERVICE" for autoresponders, websites and companies you are
promoting. Some do not permit newsgroup postings. Those who use newsgroups can
expect a fair number of responses. Posting brings a steady flow of traffic and
can compliment your existing marketing methods. Give them a try and you will
agree, newsgroups really work!
