NETIQUETTE AND INTER-NETWORKING
Before pitching your products to any target Internet group, you must first create a relationship of trust and respect. The online crowd is very wary and suspicious. Coming into a group, posting one or two messages about your great company and your wonderful product will not endear you to your readers. Participants on a chat board or email list are there to exchange information and don't want a sales pitch! The Internet offers you a large gathering of potential prospects who expect you to heed the rules of Netiquette.
Network marketing is the distribution of products through Relationship Marketing. You are distributing products through the personal networks you create. Creating online relationships takes time and care. Choose a few Net newsgroups, message forums, chat boards or topical email distribution lists that interest you. Contribute helpful, informative messages regularly to these exchanges before your talk about your business or products. You can mention these in your signature line, if permitted. Sig lines are free advertising. Always use them wherever they are permitted and certainly in all email responses to prospects.
Your frequent posts to a message exchange will create awareness and acceptance if your postings contribute useful information. After you have established yourself as a contributing member of that community, you can introduce your business with less risk of bad vibes.
AOL and CompuServe both have specific areas devoted to small business, and specifically to network marketing. On Compuserve the board can be found in the Network Marketing section of the SmallBiz forum. AOL has a section devoted to "Multi-Level Marketing". This includes general and company-specific forums, live scheduled chats, and an Multi-Level Marketing library with some excellent articles. In the live chats, it is not uncommon for seasoned network marketers to use the Instant Message function to strike up a conversation with new people visiting there for the first time. Much like the shark waiting for the minnow to swim by! And there are usually quite a few sharks for every minnow.
