How to handle Spam

I wrote about a problem a couple of issues ago (or didn't I? I think I did) - stupid angry people who join a list or request an autoresponder (or multiple autoresponders) and then FORGET that they ASKED you to email them. These people (the ones who have the dangerous combination of both stupidity and anger built into their permanent personality structures) can really make your life miserable. They can email AOL, MSN, the SEC, your ISP, or the FTC, to try to get you shut down.
When you've done NOTHING wrong and made HUGE EFFORTS to only email to people that ASK for it. (For example, I can no longer send outgoing mail through cgocable.net because of ONE complaint. They are a huge company, part of the @HOME network (WAVE), and can't be bothered talking to me. Have my rights been violated? You bet they have.)

I have these idiots coming after me, not through any of my own wrongdoing. I do my utmost to remove them from all of my mailing lists and thankfully was able to run things smoothly up until a few months ago.

Don't ever bother trying to defend yourself to one of these people. A single email, typed personally, explaining to them the actual situation, will be considered "more spam" by them, because their mental capacity is too small to contain an accurate definition of "spam". To them, spam is "any email that annoys me". They could get an email from their mother-in-law stating "You never do anything right" and they'd call that "spam". People get accused of "spamming" by registering their websites on search engines these days. The term has lost all meaning. Let me repeat that ...

The Term "SPAM" Has Lost ALL Meaning
It's easy for people to accuse you of spamming. After all the term is meaningless. Get it? Some people think that any email that doesn't come from their friend Zeke is "spam". So ALWAYS keep EVERY email you receive from EVERYONE. Back them up onto floppy disks and CDs. You may need them later, to prove that the person actually asked you to send them email.
